Members of the Bigwin community are so fortunate to live and vacation in the one of most beautiful regions in Canada and it is important for all of us to consider giving back to support the larger community of which we are a part.
The Bigwin Community Foundation is a registered charity with the important goal of providing members of the Bigwin community a means to support locally based charitable initiatives in three broad areas: Education and Youth, Social, Economic and Healthcare, and Environmental Cultural Stewardship.
In 2022, the Foundation will prioritize local needs that that have been brought on by the economic challenges many in our community are facing.
The Foundation was originally conceived in the fall of 2018, with the inspiration and initial financial commitment from former Bigwin Golf Club Member and Island resident Fred Purvis. Fred always believed that Bigwin’s summer staff were what made his experience so special, and he wanted to do something to help these young people further their post-secondary education.
While originally set up to focus on scholarships, it quickly became evident that this need, along with other important needs, were top of mind amongst the Bigwin community. The result is a charity with a charter and mandate to assess and support a broad range of local needs.
The goal of our Charity is to provide Golf Club Members and Bigwin property owners with the opportunity to be part of supporting the local community’s vitality by granting access to a wide range of organizations and initiatives throughout Muskoka.
